Abdominoplasty is commonly refered to as "tummy tuck". This is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can firm and reshapes a persons abdomen. The procedure entails removing excess fat and skin from the midle to lower abdomen. This results in a tightening of the abdominal wall muscles. The procedure can have a dramatic effect in reducing the apperance of a protruding abdomen although you must be aware that it leaves a permenant scar, the size of which depends on the extent of the surgery required.

Many thousands of abdominoplasties are undertaken each year and performed succesfully. Fully comply with your Doctors instructions both pre and post surgery and all shoud be well. Recovery from a complete abdominoplasty (most extensive procedure ) can take four to six weeks and patients are advised to take at least a portion of this recovery time off from work.
