This procedure is also known as Lipoplasty or suction Lipectomy ( fat modelling or suction assisted fat removal) . It is a procedure that can remove fat from various areas of a persons body, such as thighs,buttocks,arms neck, hips (love handles) etc. Note that dieting and excercise are the best forms of removing fat and Liposuction should only really be used on areas of body fat that do not respond. Generally speaking the amount of fat removed via Liposuction will not be more than 10 pounds. The more that is removed the greater the possibility of complications but as the fat is being removed from a specific location ( unlike excercise and diet where loss can be spread over the body ) the results can be very positive. Note that if your skin is in poor condition(loose, stretch marks) it may not tighten well after liposuction and so could look worse. This should be discussed with the surgeon prior to deciding to undergo this surgery, it may be that a tummy tuck would be a better option.

Further points:-

1. The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
2. Many scars but small and can be visible for some months after the procedure.
3. Procedure time from 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on extent of surgery
4. If a large amount is removed you will have an overnight stay in hospital
5. You will have to wear a "girdle" for several weeks after the procedure.
6. You may need to take pain killing medicine for up to 2 weeks after
7. There are other possible minor side effects - swelling, itching which you should discuss with your doctor.

Note that all surgery carries some risk and so you should only use a fully qualified and registerd Doctor (in Brazil a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery - Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica).
